New Racks – 100% hand built by Dion at;
1pm today.
The weather changed dramatically over the escarpment and a southerly front combined with the nor’west air stream produced some brilliant effects across the skyline.
Luckily for me I was on the road and stopped by ‘The Southern Gateway’ at Bulli Tops and captured these images.
My intention was to choose 1 or 2 and display them but how can you decide which stay and which go ? I’m spellbound by each one of them for their own individual reasons.
No different to watching unridden waves on the ocean, the curves and arches of the clouds had me dreaming of top and bottom turns as ‘only a surfer’ would understand.
A quick shout out for two of my mate’s who have rockin’ web page / blog’s up and running.
Mick Slattery kindly mentioned me in one of his most recent post’s. Thanks Mick, humbled.

With a strong westerly forecast on Saturday (40-50km / hr), I’m planning on partaking in a 10km ‘downwind’ run in Port Hacking with a few of the boys (and girls).
The plan is to leave Swallow Rock Reserve in Gray’s Point at 8am and it should take 70-90 minutes at a nice even, steady pace to reach Tonkin Oval in Cronulla.
Logistics with cars can be an issue;
I’ll be leaving my car at Cronulla in the car park upon the water’s edge below Tonkin Street (which is behind Cronulla Railway Station) and grabbing a lift back to the starting point at Swallow Rock so we have at least my car (and hopefully another if required) ready to car pool back to Gray’s Point upon completion.
Here’s a video of our last Bay run in similar conditions. It’s fun, not serious and not a race, go as hard as you like or just enjoy the ride with the wind at your back.
Another beautiful sunrise today.
Unloading my OC-1 at 5.30am in the dark on Trinity Row at Bulli, whilst enjoying the solitude of only the ocean lapping the shore 50 metres from me, a car with QLD plates, drove past, turned around, parked next to me and in the nicest possible way asked if he could paddle with me and the boys. What can you say ? No, I want to be left alone. Hardly, so a new friend was made and away we went with the SUP’s at 6am.
As we paddled north, my new friend said;
‘You guys are bloody mad. I’m all for a morning paddle but I do like to see the round yellow thing on the horizon at least’.
‘No, not with us’ I replied. ‘We do it hardcore in the dark down here’
Along the way, I spasmodically shot a memory card full of amazing images of Paul & Wayne on the ocean with the day dawning on the horizon.
We won’t see them however, my camera came away from its float and now sits on the bottom of the reef at backside Sandon Point.
Shit !
So, the below image is all you get. My rig post session on Bulli Beach, coffee stains and all.
Another stunning Autumn sunrise this morning above McCauley’s Beach Thirroul.
Wayne and Paul chewed the miles from Bulli to Thirroul while Paul and I stayed in the corner and plucked some peelers.
A brisk offshore breeze made it a touch cool but that first ray of sun on the horizon never grows tiring.
….and on a work day – stoked !

I’m selling 3 x Naish SUP’s.
-
The 12’6 is as new, carbon construction, valued at $2500 and includes a travel cover. Selling for $1500.00
-
The 14′ Javelin has been ridden twice and again as new. Valued at $1600 – no cover but $995.00 for a new SUP isn’t at all bad value – a bargain.
-
The 17′ Glide is in great condition, used but well looked after – at $2900 new, it’s a steal at $1500.00 including a cover.
Feel free to contact me on 0422 785 636 with any questions or reply e-mail.
Details of the board’s below;
Carbon Naish Glide 12’6 2012 Model
The Glide 12’6’ is the perfect choice for flatwater adventures, cruising with friends and recreational racing. Compared to longer race-oriented SUP boards, the 12’6” is incredibly fast, but easy to maneuver and carry. The Glide 12’6” has a penetrating vee nose and flat rocker, for exceptional glide. It also features ample width and thickness for great stability.
Naish Javelin 14’0 2012 Model
The Javelin 14’0” is designed for maximum speed in flatwater. It incorporates a low rocker displacement bow shape with soft rounded rails, for the most efficient ratio of paddle power to board glide. The slender hull shape and soft rails create an extremely efficient water line while maintaining stability for average paddlers. The sleek design of the Javelin 14’0” makes it a winner, hands down, and an ideal board for flatwater cruising and competitive racing.
Naish Javelin 2011 Model
Pure and simple, the Javelin 17’0” is a distance-oriented, open class, competition race board. Offering lightning speed in flatwater and unbelievably long glides on open ocean swells, the Javelin 17’0” features a state-of-the-art adjustable rudder system that will accommodate either goofy foot or regular foot paddlers.
In the 1960′s surfers had the classic Bruce Brown flick ‘The Endless Summer’.
It returned in the mid 1990′s with ‘The Endless Summer II’ and now for 2012, a classic for the new breed, the smart surfer, the waterman;
‘That First Glide’.
Check it. It’s where we are at !
At times I’m questioned as to why I like to be in the water at sunrise, if not before.
It’s that moment in time when there is absolute solitude, quite, tranquility, negativity ceases to exist, nature abounds. Just the ocean and I.
Dan captured these images yesterday being one such beautiful day dawning, with just myself on my SUP, enjoying contemplation between sets and delighting in everything occurring unbeknownst to 99% who were tucked away in bed and missing out.
Of course, I was happy to today purchase them for the record books – Be sure to check Dan’s images at;
